The Chaplet of

St. Gabriel the Archangel

As prayed on the Seraphic Rosary or Franciscan Crown

(a Rosary of Seven Decades)

Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Holy Wisdom of God, pray for us that the light of Christ may be born in our Souls.  Amen.

1. Using beads for the Franciscan Crown (a rosary of seven decades), hold the cross and make a Sign of the Cross: +In the Name of God, the Living One, Word, and Spirit.  Amen May substitute a traditional formula like “.”+In the Name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Ghost.  Amen

2. Then form a specific intention, and take a moment to focus on it:  I offer this Rosary for the following intention (name your intention) and ask God’s blessing on it.

3.  Pray the Our Father on the First Bead, to invoke the prayer path of Jesus to the Heavens.

Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.  Amen.

Many people prefer to use an alternative prayer to affirm that God is beyond all gender.  One such prayer might be:  Our Mother, with us on earth, holy is your name, your true reign come, your will be done, within us, as it is within you.  Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our sins, as we forgive those whose sins have oppressed us, and lead us not into confusion, but enlighten us with your wisdom.  Amen.

4. Pray one Hail Mary on each of the next three beads in honor of Mary, Queen of Angels.

Hail Mary, full of grace,

the Lord is with thee,

blessed art thou amongst women,

and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,

 pray for us* now ,

and at the hour of death.

Amen.

*Traditional language adds “sinners.”

5. On the chain , pray the Gloria Patri:

Glory be to Thee, O God,

Living One, Word, and Spirit,

now and for all ages and aeons.

Amen.

Or pray the traditional formula:  Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost, as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end.  Amen.

6. On the single bead before the decades, announce the first Mystery and then pray the following prayer:

The Holy Spirit will come upon thee

And the power of the Most High

will overshadow thee.

Thou wilt bear the Holy Child of God,

For nothing is impossible with God. Amen.

7.  On each of the next ten beads, meditate on the mystery and pray the following prayer:

Behold I am the servant

Of the Lord.

Be it done in me

According to thy word.  Amen.

On the chain following the decade, pray the Gloria Patri:

Glory be to Thee, O God,

Living One, Word, and Spirit;

now and for all ages and aeons.

Amen.

9. Continue in the same manner for each mystery.

10.  While praying each decade, focus on the divine light which comes through each mystery.

Seven Angelic Mysteries of St. Gabriel

1. The Right Hand of the Altar of Incense.  “And there appeared to Zachariah an angel of God, standing on the right side of the altar of incense.  And Zachariah, seeing the angel, was troubled, and fear fell upon him. But the angel said to him: Fear not, Zachariah, for thy prayer is heard.”  Lk 1:11-13.

2. The Spirit and Power of Elijah.   “Thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a child, and thou shalt call his name John: And thou shalt have joy and gladness, and many shall rejoice at the nativity. For the child shall be great before the Lord; and shall drink no wine nor strong drink: and  shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from the mother's womb. And John shall convert many of the children of Israel to the Lord their God. And he shall go before God in the spirit and power of Elijah; that he may turn the hearts of the parents unto their children, and the incredulous to the wisdom of the just, to prepare unto the Lord a holy people.”  Lk 1:14-17

3. The Angelic Salutation.  And in the sixth month, the angel Gabriel was sent from God into a city of Galilee, called Nazareth, to a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary. And the angel being come in, said unto her: Hail, full of grace, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou amongst women.  Who having heard, was troubled at this saying, and thought with herself what manner of salutation this should be.  And the angel said to her: Fear not, Mary, for thou hast found grace with God.  Lk. 1:26-30

4. The Advent of the Eternal Aeon. Behold thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and shalt bring forth a child whom thou shalt call by the name  of Jesus. The child shall be great, and shall called the Child of the most High; and the Lord God shall give unto Jesus the throne of David thy ancestor, reigning in the house of Jacob for ever. And of this kingdom there shall be no end.  Lk 1:31-33

5. The Matrix of Holy Sophia.  “And Mary rising up in those days, went into the hill country with haste into a city of Judah. And she entered into the house of Zachariah, and saluted Elizabeth. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost: And she cried out with a loud voice, and said: ‘Blessed art thou amongst women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.’”  Lk 1:39-42

6. The Mystery of Joy in the Presence.  And Elizabeth said, “How can this be, that the mother of God should come to me? For behold as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.”  Lk 1:43-44

7. The Ascent of the Logos to the Pleroma.   And blessed art thou that hast believed, because those things shall be accomplished in the fullness of time that were spoken to thee by the Lord.  Lk 1:45

MAGNIFICAT

Closing Prayer

Luke 1:46-55

And Mary said: My soul doth magnify the Lord. And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. Because God hath regarded the humility of a lowly servant; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.  Because the God that is mighty, hath done great things to me; and holy is God’s name.  And God’s mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that revere the Lord. God hath showed a mighty arm: God hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart. God hath put down the mighty from their thrones, and hath exalted the humble. God hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich are sent empty away. God hath remembered the servant Israel, being mindful of the mercy spoken to our ancestors, promised to God’s people for ever.   Glory be to Thee, O God Eternal Father, Son and Holy Ghost, now and for all Ages and Aeons.  Amen.

Our Lady Queen of Angels

Pray for us!

O Holy Elijah,

O great Prophet,

seer of God's mighty works,

who didst halt the torrential rain by thy word,

pray for us to the Lover of  humankind!

Amen.

St. Gabriel Archangel

Ora pro nobis

San Gabriel Archángel

Ora por nosotros

O glorious presence of the heavenly hosts, St. Gabriel Archangel, we implore thee that by thy prayers thou wilt encircle us, humble though we are, with the protection of the wings of thine immaterial glory, and guard us who incline before thee and fervently cry, “Deliver us from dangers, for thou art a ruler of the powers above.”  O supernal minister of the divine presence, thought-bearer of the Divine Logos, and messenger of the divine glory, prince of incorporeal angels, and divine guide of humankind, offer our prayers as incense to the Divine One, asking for mercy and love, particularly in the following circumstance:

    (here mention your intention)

O Archangel of fruitfulness and abundance, let thy wings send forth to us God’s grace as a cool breeze, for thou art the glorious intercessor, the great minister of the splendid, holy, and all-accomplishing, ineffable and awesome Trinity, pray that we may be delivered from all harm and torment, all shadow and forgetfulness, that we may cry to Thee, “Rejoice, O Divine Messenger of the Advent of the Holy Logos, Jesus Our Savior!”

O God, who amongst all the angels didst choose the Archangel Gabriel to announce the Mystery of the Epiphany of the Logos, mercifully grant that we who honor thy messenger may also receive the benefit of thy grace and favor,  through Jesus Christ who livest and reignest with Thee and the Holy Ghost, One God for all Ages and Aeons.  Amen.

Prayer to Our Lady of Mt. Carmel

O Blessed Virgin of Mt. Carmel, be our constant hope.  Mary, Holy disciple of the Lord, make us also faithful to Jesus.  O Mary, Flower of Carmel, fill us with your joy. O Holy Mary, Beauty of Carmel, smile upon your family gathered here.  O Sweet Mother of Carmel, accept me as your child.  O Holy Mother beyond compare, remember your children forever.  O Holy Mary, Star of the Sea, be our beacon of Light.  O Blessed Mary, protecting veil, shelter us with your love.  Holy Mary, Mother of God, Pray for us now and at the hour of our death.  Amen.

The Holy Spirit will come upon thee

And the power of the Most High

will overshadow thee.

Thou wilt bear the Holy Child of God,

For nothing is impossible with God.

Amen.

Behold I am the servant

Of the Lord.

Be it done in me

According to thy word.

Amen.
